The lesson this week is something almost every business owner gets wrong.

Let’s jump into it!

Work On The Right Tasks

Most business owners out there are guilty of two things:

  1. They spend the majority of their time on tasks that don’t produce revenue.

  2. They don’t know what tasks drive the most revenue.

Both of these can be fixed by following the 80/20 rule. The 80/20 rule is this:

80% of the outputs result from 20% of the inputs. This cause-and-effect relationship is present in all areas of life.

  • 80% of the wealth is controlled by 20% of the people.

  • 80% of results come from 20% of the workers.

  • 80% of revenue comes from 20% of customers.

  • 80% of crashes come on 20% of the roads.

And on and on…

Likewise, 80% of revenue comes from 20% of tasks/activities. But as mentioned above, most business owners don’t focus on that 20%.

There are always lots of small, nit-picky things in your business constantly screaming for attention. But these aren’t the tasks that produce revenue.

So here’s how you identify the top revenue-producing activities.

1. Make A List of All Activities

Write down and make a list of all the activities that you work on in your business.

Checking emails, sending emails, training, having meetings, running errands, looking at analytics, etc.

If you’ve ever owned a business, this list will probably be pretty long. As a business owner, you are often times wearing many hats.

Once you have your list, identify the activities producing the majority of the revenue.

2. Delegate & Outsource

Now that you know which 20% of activities drive the most revenue, it’s time for you to focus on that top 20%.

The other 80% should either be delegated or outsourced.

Now don’t get confused. This other 80% is still very important to the success of your business.

But you shouldn’t be the one focusing on it. Your time is best spent on the areas of your business with the most leverage and the largest potential to make you money.

I can’t tell you which tasks/activities are the big revenue drivers. For each business, it’s different.

But what’s important is figuring that out ASAP. The success of your business depends on it.

That’s it.
