The Sorites Paradox

Could $1 Make You Rich?

Read time: 1 minute & 30 seconds

Welcome back to The Leap! A newsletter to help individuals and businesses take their productivity to the next level.

This week is all about the power of small changes.

Let’s jump into it!

The Sorites Paradox

There’s a version of the Sorites Paradox that goes like this:

Can one coin make a person rich? You’d probably say no. What about 10 coins? Still a no.

But what if you add another coin? And another? And another? At some point, you’ll have to admit that the addition of one coin made that person rich.

The same principle applies to habits. Can one tiny change transform your life? You’d probably say no again.

But what if that tiny change/habit is made again? And again? And again? At some point, your life will be transformed by that one small change.

At the beginning of a new habit, it can seem meaningless. There are no visible results.

But gradually, as you stack small habits on top of each other, you hit a tipping point. And that’s when momentum takes over.

There’s one other version of the Sorites Paradox that goes like this:

If you have a heap of sand and you remove one grain, it's still a heap. Remove 10 grains, and you still have a heap. At what point does it stop being a heap? There's no clear answer.

The same is true with success. Success varies from person to person. You can't provide a clear answer on what success is or the recipe for obtaining it.

For one person, it may only take 100 repetitions of "removing a grain," while for the next person, it takes 1,000.

But at some point, the heap will no longer be a heap. As long as you don't quit.

The secret to getting results is to never stop.

You may not get the results as quickly as someone else, but with enough repetitions, you eventually get there.

That’s it for this week.
