How to get more done in less time
Read time: 2 minutes
Welcome back to The Leap! A newsletter to help individuals and businesses take their productivity to the next level.
I wanted to give a warm welcome to the 135 people who joined us since our last newsletter. Most of you came from downloading the Notion GOAL SMASHER from Twitter. If you haven’t snagged it yet, it’s free and will help you achieve your goals!
I’m a huge Notion enthusiast and will be coming out with 25+ templates by the end of the year. My email subscribers will be some of the first to know when I launch new Notion templates.
Now, let’s jump into the productivity tip this week.
Work Less, Do More
Growing up, I remember rushing out the door with my family. We were usually waiting on my mom or one of my three sisters to finish getting ready. Usually my mom.
It didn’t matter how early they started getting ready, they would push the time right up to the last minute. If they had 30 minutes, they made it work. If they had 2 hours, they took every last minute.
We call this Parkinson’s Law. “Work expands to fill the time allotted for its completion.”
You are likely to use up all the time you have to complete a task. Even if the task could have been completed sooner. The key is to not tether yourself to the thought that something takes a lot of time.
So this is the big question I want you to ask yourself:
Are you giving yourself too much time? What would it look like if you hypothetically cut that time in half?
The problem is that most people don’t give themselves any kind of deadline. They have something they want to accomplish but have the mentality of “I’ll get around to it when I get around to it.”
So here’s what we’re going to do. The framework is quite simple:
Give yourself a deadline
That’s it.
What you’ll find is that once you give yourself a deadline, your productivity shoots through the roof. That’s because you start following the Pareto Principle:
"80% of effects come from 20% of causes."
All of a sudden you don’t have time anymore to work on tasks that don’t move the needle. You start focusing your effort where it’s most important and where it has the greatest impact.
I’m confident if you start setting deadlines in your personal and business life, you’ll see a huge increase in your productivity and efficiency.
That’s all for today.
See you next week!
